Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has denied any accusations that he insulted the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, or the Asante Kingdom when screening NPP candidates for the region’s legislature.
There are rumors that Chairman Wontumi spoke some abhorrent things about the Asantehene.
The official complaint is said to have been filed with the Kumasi Traditional Council by Nana Kwaku Duah, the Chief of Kokoso and the Obremponhene of Otumfuo, and Ofori Attah Tom-Tom, the Chairman of the Manhyia South NPP Constituency.
However, Chairman Wontumi refuted the accusations made against him in a speech on Wontumi Radio.
“I hold the Asantehene and the Asante monarchy in high regard, and I will never take any action that might undermine this monarchy. These accusations are all lies; none of them are true. That’s not something I can do. “Liars can be anyone who wants to,” he remarked.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako was called by the Kumasi Traditional Council on January 22 in response to his purportedly disparaging remarks directed towards the Asantehene.
In response to remarks he allegedly made during the screening of Manhyia South parliamentary candidates, the Council instructed the NPP leadership to make sure Mr. Boasiko faces it on Monday of next week.
Due to the issue, certain regional party officers were taken to the Manhyia Palace by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP’s general secretary, and Henry Nana Boakye, the national organizer.
Chairman Wontumi is presently ill, the NPP General Secretary informed the Council, pleading with them to extend the invitation by two weeks to Wontumi.
The Ashanti Kingdom’s clan makes up the council, and members have voiced shock and disgust over words they believe Chairman Wontumi made.
Even if Chairman Wontumi needs to use a wheelchair, several Chiefs insisted that he needs to show up before the Council.
