Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a former president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has advised Charles Kwabla Akonnor to file a lawsuit against the Ministry of Youth and Sports for unpaid arrears.

Even though he was fired two years ago, Akonnor, who led the Black Stars from 2020 to 2021, is reportedly owed 11 months’ worth of wages.

With four months remaining on his Black Stars contract, the former coach of Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak was fired, which required him to pay $100,000 in compensation despite earning $25,000 per month.

Apart from to the four month arrears, he was also owed money for the previous seven months, which came to $175,000. Akonnor would need to receive a total payment of $275,000 as a result.

Following the ‘unfair’ treatment the coach received both before and afterwards his stint with the national team, according to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, it is appropriate that the coach sought redress in court.

Kwesi Appiah’s replacement, Akonnor, left the Black Stars in 2021, and Milovan Rajevac, a seasoned coach, took over. The Serbian coach also quit after the Black Stars’ disastrous performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The interim replacement was Otto Addo, a member of Rajevac’s backroom staff who also resigned following the team’s 2022 World Cup group-stage elimination. After being appointed as the new coach in March, Chris Hughton has now overseen three games, gaining one and drawing two others.
